Silverstone Legend – Nigel Mansell

Silverstone Legend – Nigel Mansell

23rd November 2018

Last month our Director of Collections, Exhibitions and Learning, Vicky Worpole travelled to Jersey to interview Silverstone legend, Nigel Mansell about his racing career.  We’re thrilled to confirm that the Williams FW14B that he drove to victory at Silverstone in 1992 will be on display at the Silverstone Experience when it opens next spring.

1992 was finally Nigel Mansell’s year in the F1 World Championship. In the dominant Williams FW14B he would win 9 of the 16 races that season, his 7th win came on home soil here at Silverstone. On Saturday 11th July 1992 he took pole position by nearly a second. 150,000 people turned out on race day, and Mansell didn’t disappoint. From pole he briefly lost the lead into the first corner to his team mate Riccardo Patrese, but he immediately won it back and that would be the closest any competitor came to Mansell until the chequered flag.
